Preserving the past of Marshall County for future generations since 1908

Upcoming Events

The Genealogy Interest Group of the Historical Society of Marshall County will meet Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mowry-Irvine Mansion, 503 West Main Street, Marshalltown.  This will give everyone an opportunity to see the many genealogical resources available in the Research Library at the site.  These include the obituaries and funeral programs that have been collected, preserved in binders, and indexed by members of the group for a number of years.  There are also family histories, surname files, town and county histories, city directories, school yearbooks, maps, naturalization records, and other helpful resources for local, state, national, and international research.

Those attending are invited to tell about genealogical discoveries they have made during the many months of the pandemic and to share tips that might be of help to other researchers.  A genealogy magazine give-away will take place.  There will also be a discussion of future meeting plans, and ideas for programs will be appreciated.  If you cannot attend but have ideas to share, please send them to co-chairs Theresa Williams at or Judy Nanke at
Fall 2021 meetings have also been scheduled for the following Sundays (program topics will be announced later):
October 17 - 1:30 p.m. - Room B, Marshalltown Public Library
December 5 - 1:30 p.m. - Room B, Marshalltown Public Library

History on Third Thursday evening events are free and open to the public, with light refreshments served following the program. Program locations will be specified for each program.
